The Bangladesh cricket team made history on Wednesday, securing their first ever ODI series win over South Africa, smashing them by 9 wickets at Chittagong.
Hashim Amla won the toss and elected to bat first. He opened the batting with Quinton de Kock, and it was more of the same, with the pair struggling against the quality Bangladesh bowling. Both de Kock and du Plessis were both back in the pavilion with just 19 runs on the board, followed by Amla with his score on 15 off 35 balls. The rain came down with South Africa on 78/4, after which the match was shortened to a 40 overs contest. David Miller and JP Duminy got South Africa back into the game with the latter top scoring with 51 off 70 balls. The Tigers continued to take wicket towards the death overs, restricting the South African scoring, reaching 168/9 after 40 overs. It was again the 19 year old Mustafizur Rahman that has South Africa in all sorts of trouble, ending with 2/24 from his 8 overs. Shakib Al Hasan was the top wicket taker with figures of 3/33.
The target was adjusted to 170 for Bangladesh, who proceeded to make light work of the South African bowling attack. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar took the attack to South Africa, putting a opening partnership of 154 runs, demoralizing the South African bowling attack. The pace attack of Abbott, Radaba and Morkel couldn’t find any sort of rhythm. Soumya Sarkar top scored for the Tigers, blasting 90 off 75 balls, falling short of what wouldn’t been a well-deserved century. Iqbal ended not out on 61 off 77 balls, taking Bangladesh over the line in the 27th over.
The win gives Bangladesh their first ever series win over South Africa, taking the series 2-1, soon after dealing the same hiding out to India.
