India notched up their second win of the World T20 with a narrow 1 run win over Bangladesh at Bangalore on Thursday.

Mortaza won the toss for Bangladesh and elected to field first. Sharma and Dhawan got India off to a steady start, putting on 42 runs during the power play overs. Sharma was the first wicket down with his score on 18 from 16 balls, with Dhawan falling the very next over for 23 from 22 balls. Both Kohli and Raina got off to start, but failed to convert. Raina top scored for India with 30 from 23 balls but wicket continued to fall at regular intervals, slowing the Indian scoring rate. Captain Mortaza was the most economical bowler, conceding just 22 runs from his 4 overs. Jadeja finished off the innings well to take India to 146/7 after their allotted 20 overs, falling far short from what they would’ve hoped for. Al-Amin Hossain and Rahman picked up two wickets each for the Tigers.

It was the experienced Tamim Iqbal who got Bangladesh off to the start they would’ve hoped for, despite losing the wicket of Mithum early. Bangladesh too lost plenty of wicket at regular intervals, but managed to keep up with the rate required. Ashwin was magnificent with the ball, picking up the key wicket of Shakib Al Hasan for 22 from 15 balls in the 13th over. The Tigers has the match in their hands, needing 11 runs from the final over to win, and getting it down to 2 runs from 2 balls, but failed to get over the line. Bangladesh needed cool heads in the latter overs, but Rahim and Mahmudullah couldn’t provide this, as they fell painfully short of what would’ve been their first ever win over India in T20 cricket. It was the spin of Ashwin and Jadeja who did most of the damage, taking 4/42 between them from their 8 overs.
