India put on yet another dominating performance against Sri Lanka during the second day of the opening test at Galle on Thursday.
India started the day on 128/2, and managed to get through the entire morning session without losing a wicket. Dhawan was the first to reach his century, doing so off 178 balls. Lunch was taken with Indian in 228/2, with Captain Kohli on 86 not out.
The middle session belonged to Sri Lanka, as the ball begun to spin which suited the Sri Lankan bowling line-up. Four wicket fell during the session for the addition of just 76 runs. Kohli was the first wicket to fall after lunch when he was tapped lbw by Kaushal with his score on 103. Rahane failed to score as he lost his wicket in the exact same fashion. India went into the tea break with the score on 304/6.
The final session of the day saw new Indian wicket-keeper Saha reach his first test fifty, by showing good composure to bat with the Indian tail. He was eventually dismissed for 60 off 120 balls, and needs to thank Ishant Sharma who batted 39 deliveries to see the youngster to his first half-century. India were bowled out for 375, giving them a lead of 192 runs. Kaushal was the best bowler for Sri Lanka, ending with figures of 5/134. He went at over 4 runs per over, but this will be of little concern due to the wicket taking ability he showed.
Sri Lanka were given a very difficult 4 overs to bat out before the close of play, which ended in a nightmare for them. India opted to bowl 4 overs of spin, which brought them instant success, removing both the Sri Lankan openers before the close of play. Sri Lanka will continue their second innings on 5/2, still trailing Indian by 187 runs.
With the track showing plenty of turn, one feels that the test is now for India to lose, as a way back into the match for Sri Lanka looks very unlikely.
