Post Match

India will have gone into the 4th day of the opening test match against Sri Lanka at Galle with plenty of confidence, and keen on picking up the win. Sri Lanka on the other hand had different ideas, as they managed to pick up a very unlikely win, given their poor start to the match.

India started the day on 23/1, needing another 153 runs to win the test match. The night watchmen Ishant Sharma was the first wicket to fall on day four when he was trapped lbw by Herath. Herath struck yet another huge blow just 4 overs later when he bowled Rohit Sharma with his score on 4. It was then up to the young spinning sensation from Sri Lanka, Kaushal to show his steel, on a track offering plenty of assistance for slow bowlers. He obliged to pick up the important wickets of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan before lunch. Lunch was called with the score on 78/7, with very impressive bowling by Sri Lanka, ensuring that they used the conditions well.

Rahane showed some resistance to stop score for India with a patient 36, but failed to get any support from his fellow team mates. It was a spinning master class from Herath as he ended the innings with figures of 7/48 as they bundled out the might India for just 112 runs, giving Sri Lanka the win by 63 runs and a 1-0 lead in the 4 match test series. Kaushal will also be happy with his performance, having picked up 8 wickets in the match.

Dinesh Chandimal received the man of the match award for his match winning century which got Sri Lanka back into the contest.
