Honors were even after day two of the second test match between Sri Lanka and India at Colombo. India started the day on 319/6, and were hoping to build a decent total.
They had an early setback when Ravi Ashwin was dismissed early in the morning session by Angelo Mathews. Mishra joined Saha at the crease, and the pair managed to put on a 46 runs partnership, but more importantly used up plenty of deliveries. Mishra did a good job in scoring 24 off 50 balls, while at the other end Saha notched up a fifty. Lunch was taken with India on 386/8.
The final two wicket fell soon after lunch with Herath doing a good job with his immaculate line and length. He ended as the top bowler for Sri Lanka with figures of 4/81 from his 25 overs. India were dismissed for 393, perhaps a few runs short of what they would’ve hoped for at the start of play. Sri Lanka got off to the worst possible start, with Umesh Yadav striking on the second over to send Karanarate back to the pavilion when he trapped him lbw with his score on 1. Silva and Sangakkara did a good job of playing out the rest of the session as tea was taken with Sri Lanka on 65/1.
Playing in his final test match, Sangakkara was the first wicket to fall after the tea break when he was caught by Rahane off the bowling of Ashwin with his score on 32. Silva went on to make a steady 51 before falling victim to Mishra in the 44th over. Thirimanne and Mathews batted out the evening session without any further trouble, ending the day on 140/3, still trailing the Indian first inning score by 253 runs with just 7 wickets remaining.
