Pakistan secured a memorable 178 runs win over England at Dubai on Monday giving them a 1-0 lead in the 3 match series.

England started the day on 130/3, with their only real option being to try and bat out the day to secure a draw. Zulfiqar Babar made the first breakthrough on the final day when he dismissed Joe Root, opening the door for Pakistan. Yasir Shah joined the party when he bowled Johnny Bairstow with his score on 22 off 86 balls. Shah delivered yet another beauty just before lunch to send Jos Buttler back to the pavilion as lunch was taken with England on 187/6.

Post lunch it was the bat of Adil Rashid that frustrated Pakistan showing plenty of resilience. Stokes lost his wicket on 13 off 66 balls, exposing the England tail to some quality spin bowling. Stuart Broad showed some fight, scoring 30 off 42 balls before he was bowled by Wahab Riaz. Tea was taken with England on 285/8, as they proceeded not to roll over, making Pakistan work for every wicket.

The final session of the day saw Pakistan showing plenty of nerves, as a partnership between Rashid and Wood looked like they might pull for a miracle for England. Yet again it was the spin duo of Babar and Shah that make the crucial breakthroughs towards the end of the days play to pick up the wickets of Rashid and Wood. Rashid has to be commended for his effort, scoring 61 off 172 balls. England were bowled out with their score on 312, with only a handful of over left in the day. Bad light also come into play, but the umpires elected to play on, giving Pakistan the win. Wahab Riaz received the man of the match award for his contribution with the ball.
