The New Zealand Blackcaps scored their 3rd win in the World T20, making easy work of a spirited Pakistan side on Tuesday.
Williamson continued his good luck with the toss, electing to bat first yet again. The Blackcaps got off to an excellent start with Guptill and Williamson blasting 55 runs. Mohammad Irfan struck the first blow for Pakistan to remove Williamson. Afridi was next up with the ball removing the big hitting Munro with his score on 7. Anderson joined Guptill at the crease and looked dangerous during his 21 from 14 balls before Afridi struck yet again. All the while Guptill was going great guns at the other end to eventually end the top scorer for New Zealand with a brilliant 80 from 48 balls. Ross Taylor provided the impotence towards the death overs with an eye catching 36 from 23 balls to take his side to 180/5 after the allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Sami was the top bowler for Pakistan, ending with figures of 2/23 from his 4 overs.
Pakistan emulated their opposition during the power play overs, as Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad powered them off to a magnificent start. Khan lost his wicket just before the end of the power play, but not before doing his job, scoring 47 from just 25 balls. Shehzad went on to score 30 from 32 balls, playing a decent anchor role at the top of the order, but perhaps just too slow. The New Zealand bowlers fought back well during the middle offers, with Santner, Anderson and Sodhi doing an excellent job with the change of pace. Afridi threatened briefly during his 19 from 9 balls before being caught off the bowling of Sodhi at a key moment of the chase. The likes of Akmal and Ahmed were left too much to do down the order and struggled to cope with the excellent death bowling New Zealand dished up. They were restricted to 158/5 giving New Zealand a 22 runs win.
Pakistan will be disappointed with the loss given the good start they got from the openers. They simply have to find more fire power in the middle order if they want to have any chance of progressing in the tournament.
